As part of handling the deceased, an initiative was put in motion to collect their remaining medicine and nursing items to pass them on to low-means chronic patients and elderly people in need through Friends for Health which operates a pharmacy licensed to distribute drugs.
To this end, with every death, the volunteer leaves a card for the grieving family pleading them to not throw away medicine.
"ZAKA volunteers are there for you in your most difficult time as your grieve the passing of your loved one. Now is the time to pay the deceased a last respect. But do not neglect others who may need your help, even at this time.
By taking this small step of handing over medicine to those who need them you may save lives and take part in a medicine collection project, including open boxes, for chronic patients, patients suffering from serious illnesses who require expensive medicine, senior citizens and those with limited resources who struggle to pay for medicine not covered by universal health care or by their supplementary insurance and whose high price puts them out of their reach.
We will collect the medicine for those who await them and they will be distributed by Friends for Health.
