Volunteer Moshe Halevi Z”l
Eshkolot man
Moshe Halevi Z”l, a ZAKA volunteer in all his limbs, who dedicated his life to others, whose face shone for every person, a humble and upright man, whose hands were busy for the individual and the whole, quietly and in a peaceful manner.
For about half a century, Moshe Z”l volunteered in the ZAKA organization and in this framework he visited every house where there was a dead person, comforted and accompanied families in their difficult times and became a symbol and example of a man of action and kindness in the city of Herzliya.
Also in the framework of his other public roles, his work at the Wolfson School and being a synagogue shemesh, he was known as a man of giving and love, he was like a father to the students and came out to help and assist everyone when needed. The late Moshe never said “no” to a request for help and assistance and stood up as a soldier at the head. Always smiling, greeting everyone, and reminding everyone that he is available and ready for any task.
Moshe served, among other things, as deputy director of the municipal TARAH (Collection Station for Fallen) in Herzliya, and in this context, he stayed in the “Shora” camp day and night for months and cared for the civilian victims of the October 7th massacre. He looked the horrors in the eye, did not let up and stood his watch, even after most of the volunteers had returned to their daily routine. He traveled every day on a mission of true kindness, to care for the victims and the bags of finds that flowed from the areas surrounding the camp, and did not rest or be quiet until they all reached the Jewish grave.
Two days before his sudden death, a group of about 20 volunteers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder set out on a resilience journey in Hungary, accompanied by professionals. The late Moshe was supposed to be among them, and the evening before he insisted on going, but his flu got the better of him and prevented him from doing so. We knew he needed to be released and recharge his batteries, but unfortunately, the decree was made differently and while we were there, the bitter news of his passing arrived.
Come out and listen to the city’s residents who flocked in their thousands to the mourning tents set up for the Halevi family, each with their own story. Moshe is no longer a resident of Herzliya, he is a symbol and an exemplary example and a role model. A special man who grew up, flourished and won the hearts of many with acts of kindness and fell on his watch. May his memory be blessed.
